The National Treasury PS, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, CBS, and his counterpart from the State Department for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, today met with a visiting delegation from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, led by Mr. Thabani Maphosa.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is a global health partnership established in 2000 that brings together public and private sector partnersโ€”including WHO, UNICEF, the World Bank, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, donor governments, vaccine manufacturers, and civil societyโ€”to improve access to immunization in low- and middle-income countries. To date, it has supported the immunization of over one billion children and is credited with saving millions of lives by preventing diseases such as measles, polio, pneumonia, and cervical cancer.

Dr. Kiptoo thanked Gavi for its steadfast partnership with Kenya, which spans over two decades. During this period, Gavi has provided more than USD 950 million in financial assistance, facilitating the introduction of seven new antigens into the national immunization schedule.

โ€œThis partnership has been truly transformative,โ€ said Dr. Kiptoo. โ€œThanks to Gaviโ€™s support, Kenyaโ€™s immunization program has been significantly strengthened, ensuring that millions of children across the country are protected from vaccine-preventable diseases.โ€

Dr. Oluga echoed these remarks, noting that the collaboration has not only improved public health outcomes but also advanced Kenyaโ€™s commitment to universal health coverage through sustained immunization efforts.
