Meeting with Vice President of the Export and Import Bank of China.

S Hon. FCPA John Mbadi Ng’ongo, in another meeting today in Beijing China held discussions with Yang Dongning, Vice President of the Export and Import Bank of China (China EXIM), alongside senior officials from the bank. Their discussions reiterated the strong financial partnership between Kenya and China on financing transformative development projects that support economic growth and infrastructure expansion.
 
Hon. John Mbadi acknowledged the vital role China EXIM has played in funding key infrastructure projects that have significantly impacted Kenya’s development trajectory. Some of the landmark projects supported by the bank include: Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) – Linking Mombasa to Naivasha, enhancing trade and transport efficiency, Southern Bypass Road – Easing congestion and improving connectivity in Nairobi, Western Bypass Road – Facilitating seamless movement and economic activity in key urban corridors, Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital – Advancing healthcare and medical research in the country. These projects have not only modernized Kenya’s infrastructure but have also catalysed economic activities, created jobs, and improved public service delivery.
 
Today’s meeting provided an opportunity to review the current portfolio of China EXIM-funded projects, ensuring alignment with Kenya’s development agenda. Both parties also explored potential areas for future collaboration, emphasizing the need for sustainable financing mechanisms to support ongoing and new initiatives.
 
The CS emphasized Kenya’s commitment to enable long-term cooperation with China, acknowledging the mutual benefits derived from strategic investments and stressed that continued collaboration with China EXIM will be instrumental in unlocking further economic opportunities, driving industrialization, and improving livelihoods across Kenya.
