Kenya-European Union Financing Agreement Signing towards Gogo Hydro-Power Plant redevelopment project.
The National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon. John Mbadi, today signed two financing agreements on behalf of the Government of Kenya alongside the EU Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Henriette Geiger, the German Ambassador to Kenya, H.E. Sebastian Groth, Director of KfW's Kenya Office, Mrs. Kristina Laarmann and Ms. Maren Keller, Head of German Cooperation.
The Gogo Hydro-powerplant (operated by Kenya Electricity Generating Company(KenGen) will upscale it's production from 2 MW to 8.6 MW under the EU's Green Resilient Electricity System Programme.
This will enhance grid sustainability in Western Kenya, reduce power outrages, contribute towards the achievement of 100% renewable energy by 2035, thereby contributing to the Country's sustainable economic growth.
The Green Resilient Electricity System (GRES) Programme is a flagship of the EU's Global Gateway Strategy in Kenya, that focuses on diversifying renewable energy sources and stabilising the grid by boosting smart, clean and secure links in digital, energy and transport sectors, and to strengthen health, education, and research systems across the world.
