Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi,held a discussion his Rwandan counterpart, Mr. Yusuf Murangwa, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Rwanda, on the sidelines of the 2025 IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C.
The engagement by the two Ministers preceded a high-level trilateral consultation between Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda attended by Mr. Ramathan Ggoobi, Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury of Uganda; Dr. Chris Kiptoo,CBS, Principal Secretary for the National Treasury of Kenya; and other senior officials.
The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to accelerating regional infrastructure development as a driver of inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Central to their discussions was the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), a flagship infrastructure initiative jointly prioritized by the three East African Community (EAC) member states.
The Standard Gauge Railway is recognized as a cornerstone of the region’s integration agenda and is poised to enhance trade efficiency, promote seamless cross-border mobility, and unlock new opportunities for shared prosperity across the region.
