Signing ceremony for The Agreement On Economic and Technical Cooperation for provision of Grant amounting To Rmb 100 Million, with H.E. Ms. Guo Haiyan Ambassador of The People’s Republic Of China.
Hon. FCPA John Mbadi this morning on behalf of the Government, signed a KSh 1.8 billion (RMB 100 million) grant agreement with H.E. Ms. Guo Haiyan, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, at the Treasury Building.
The grant, a significant boost to Kenya’s healthcare sector, will fund the upgrading the following key hospitals across the country; Londiani Referral Hospital, Baringo County Referral Hospital, Kilifi Hospital, Misikhu Hospital, Bildad Kagia Hospital, and Kaimosi Farmers Training College.
To-date, the People’s Republic of China remains our leading bilateral development partner through loans and grants amounting to Kshs. 907.348 billion, with Loans Kshs. 867.020 billion and Grants amounting to Kshs. 40.328 billion.
The key completed projects financed by the Government of the People’s Republic of China under the FOCAC and Belt and Road Initiative include: -
√Construction of Mombasa to Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway;
√Construction of Nairobi to Naivasha Standard Gauge Railway;
√Nairobi – Thika Highway
√Construction of Nairobi's Eastern, Northern, and Southern Bypasses.
The CS thanked and appreciated the Chinese Government for their long standing and strong relationship with the Republic of Kenya covering key aspects of development cooperation in the economic, political as well as socio-cultural areas, making a notable contribution to our national development agenda, which has enabled Kenya to attain substantial achievements in terms of economic growth and in improving the welfare of its citizens.
